"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." James 1:12

So I studied this verse today by looking up all of the words and writing down their definitions. In doing so, I encountered phrases like steadfast and loyal, conforming to an essential reality, characterized by superiority, in accordance with what is good/just/proper, untainted, free from harshness, free from fault or guilt, delightful for beauty and harmony and grace, deserving the highest esteem, eminently good, worthy of praise, worthy of confidence, worthy of trust for care and preservation. Even in Merriam Webster definition, these words that I usually glaze over point so clearly and beautifully to God. And in the context of immediately following Philippians 4:4-7, which calls us to rejoice in The Lord in all circumstances and offer up our anxieties to him in prayer so that he may guard our hearts with peace. God says he wants to take on all our anxieties, bring a peace to our hearts that transcends all understanding, and then he proceeds to remind of us all the ways that he is good and urge us to dwell upon that goodness. This verse just says so much about God’s character and so much about what he wants for us and I am blown away by such love.
